NeuroStar® University Clinical Training
NeuroStar University is a clinical training program designed for the psychiatrist and their clinical staff to prepare them on the proper use of the NeuroStar TMS Therapy® system. Feedback from current NeuroStar Providers demonstrates the value of Neuronetics’ Clinical Training in ensuring high quality and repeatable treatments across all patients. Conducted by a dedicated staff of Neuronetics Clinical Trainers, this comprehensive program includes:
- Self-Study Curriculum – Multi-part materials describing the evidence for NeuroStar TMS efficacy and safety data and general information on the clinical use of the NeuroStar system, including contraindications and warnings for clinical use.
- System User Manual and Quick Reference Guide – Step by step instructions are provided in the NeuroStar TMS Therapy System User Manual and a Quick Reference Guide to assist in remembering key learning concepts.
After review of these materials, an on-site clinical training session is scheduled at the NeuroStar TMS clinician’s office. This training includes a 3-day hands-on training course with a Neuronetics Clinical Training Specialist. The hands-on training includes:
- Instruction to determine a patient’s Motor Threshold
- Identification of the TMS treatment location and coil movement as well as proper seating of the coil at the treatment location
- Procedures for the management of a TMS treatment session, including addressing questions of patient comfort.
- Direct observation of first patient treatments (maximum of three) with Neuronetics Clinical Training Specialist present for mentoring.
Additional phone consultation with a Clinical Training Specialist is available through Neuronetics Customer Service. They are on-call to address any training questions that arise subsequent to initial clinical training.

*NeuroStar TMS Therapy® is an FDA-cleared, non-drug treatment for patients with depression who have not benefitted from one prior antidepressant medication. NeuroStar TMS Therapy is available by prescription only. Only a doctor can help decide if NeuroStar TMS Therapy is right for you.
