Director of NursingDr. Alicia Baros has joined Alleviant Health Centers as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She earned a doctorate in pharmacology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in research addiction medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina where she was appointed Research Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. During her post-doctoral fellowship, Dr. Baros completed an associate degree in Nursing to aide in her research. As she began applying theory to practice, she went on to complete a master’s degree in Nursing at the University of South Alabama and currently is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Dr. Baros refined her clinical practice collaborating with the prestigious psychiatrists at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where she served as an Advanced Practice Partner and Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry providing clinical services in the psychiatric inpatient units and outpatient clinic.

ProviderDarren Compas graduated from Southeast Missouri State in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of General Studies degree. He then moved to Arkansas to work at St. Vincent Hospital as a cardiovascular nurse, then working in psychiatry.He did hospital inpatient and consults for delirium, dementia, and psychiatric issues for a group of doctors. Darren then went to work for the Department of Geriatrics at UAMS on a consulting team managing medical issues with a special focus on delirium. While there, he earned his Master’s degree and became board-certified in adult and geriatric primary care. He then worked outside of UAMS for a brief time seeing patients in nursing homes with dementia and mood issues. He then returned to consult on the Department of Psychiatry team at UAMS.

Sara comes to Alleviant with experience providing care for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients in outpatient settings, urgent care/crisis settings, and on a first psychosis Assertive Community Team providing care both in office and in the community/home. She provides diagnosis and treatment for a variety of mental health conditions including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorders, schizophrenia, insomnia, obsessive compulsive disorder, ADD/ADHD, and personality disorders. Sara provides care to individuals with a client centered, trauma informed, holistic approach and believes that optimizing mental health is an essential part of achieving whole body health. After she received her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the Denver School of Nursing, Sara spent the first 8 years of her nursing career working in Trauma/medical ICU and neonatal ICU. Sara received her Master’s in Nursing specializing in Nursing leadership from Purdue University Global while working for the Iowa Department of Corrections, which is where she developed her passion for mental health and later went on to attend Rocky Mountain University for Health Professions where she received her post master’s certificate specializing in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Outside of work Sara loves to spend time with her four children, volunteer for the Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network, listen to music, shop, and spend time outside.

She then later returned to the college to earn her Master of Nursing Science with a specialty in Psychiatric Mental Health. Sarah spent her first years as a nurse in an inpatient setting for children with psychiatric disorders. She learned the importance of implementing trauma-informed care for improving patient outcomes. She understands the importance of being an empathic listener in being an effective care provider to her patients. Sarah spent the next three years working at an outpatient clinic treating patients across the lifespan. She has worked with a variety of diagnoses specializing in anxiety, depression, PTSD, mood disorders, and psychosis through medication management and psychiatric evaluation. She believes in using a holistic approach for treatment and utilizing different approaches, such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Esketamine (Spravato).

Adrianne Funmaker is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She comes to Alleviant with a dual board certification of Psychiatric Mental Health and Pediatric Acute Care. In total, she has 12 years of clinical experience in nursing, six of those spent as a Nurse Practitioner at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She specialized in Neurology with an emphasis on building a Tourette’s clinic complete with a certification in Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Tourette’s (CBIT), treating headaches, epilepsy, and cerebral palsy. It was in Neurology that she realized mental health was her calling after seeing firsthand the lack of providers in the field and decided to return to school to help fill this need across Arkansas. She provides assessment, diagnosis, and medication management for individuals across the lifespan with varying mental health conditions. Always a nurse first, Adrianne treats all patients and families with dignity and compassion and believes in working together to improve outcomes within a therapeutic relationship.

She understands that being diagnosed with a serious mental illness doesn’t have to define you, but rather is just one component of who you are. She believes in addressing the root cause of an illness whether that be an addiction, childhood trauma, or wellness concerns. Cyd is an empathic listener and cares deeply for her patients, colleagues, friends, and family. Cyd began her journey studying biology at Texas Christian University. She earned Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Nursing and Master’s degrees in Business Administration (MBA) and Nursing. She considers herself to be a lifelong learner, constantly seeking ways to improve patient care. Cyd is enthusiastic about being a part of Alleviant Health Centers as she passionately believes in treating the whole patient and being a change agent in their lives. She considers herself to be creative, imaginative, curious, open-minded, non-judgmental, and an excellent listener. She possesses the capacity to be sensitive to and share the feelings of another. She can understand another person’s condition from their perspective. Cyd aspires to empower her patients to be tenacious about their personal goals. In the words of Louis D. Brandeis, “Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done.” Cyd enjoys yoga, running, travel, being outdoors, and spending time with family outside of work. Cyd loves animals and may be seen around town walking her Australian Shepherd, Tana. Jennifer began her career as a registered nurse with experience in emergency, neurology, medical-surgical, and home health settings. After moving to central Arkansas, she provided care for youth in a residential treatment center and acute behavioral hospital. This is where she discovered her passion for psychiatry. Jennifer went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a Master of Nursing Science degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. Jennifer is an Arkansas native and enjoys the many outdoor activities Arkansas has to offer, such as hiking and fishing. She also enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.

Her primary focus has been depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and crisis care for substance use disorders. Kizzie’s goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care such as Ketamine and TMS, to assist individuals with meeting their goals, and to develop a treatment plan that will optimize mental health to improve overall health, wellness, and quality of life. Outside of work, Kizzie enjoys traveling with her fiancé, watching her kids play sports, cooking, and shopping.
