Dr. Douglas Cooper, M.DDr. Douglas Cooper brings more than four decades of compassionate expertise to mental health care. Based in Georgia, he has built a distinguished career that spans clinical practice, administrative leadership, and dedicated service to diverse communities. Dr. Cooper earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1982 and completed his internship and residency in psychiatry at Columbia University Physicians & Surgeons/Harlem Hospital Center. This training provided him with extensive experience serving diverse patient populations in an urban academic medical setting. As the former Assistant Chief of Mental Health for New York City’s Residential In-patient Mental Health Services, Dr. Cooper oversaw comprehensive treatment programs and helped shape mental health policy for one of the nation’s largest municipal health systems. In this role, he directed two veterans’ residential treatment programs focused on PTSD and substance use support. Dr. Cooper serves as Supervising Psychiatrist at MindBodySoul Mental Health & Family Practice. Dr. Cooper integrates biological, psychological, and social aspects of mental health, focusing on each person’s unique strengths and circumstances. He specializes in helping individuals develop practical strategies for managing life’s challenges while addressing underlying concerns that may contribute to their current struggles. His extensive work with adolescents and young adults reflects his understanding that early support can make a profound difference in long-term wellbeing. Dr. Cooper collaborates closely with families and support systems to create environments that foster healing and growth. Throughout his career, Dr. Cooper has remained committed to meeting people where they are in their journey, offering hope and practical support to help individuals and families navigate life’s challenges and build the fulfilling lives they deserve Through decades of service, Dr. Cooper has demonstrated unwavering commitment to helping individuals and families overcome the challenges of mental illness and addiction, with the ultimate goal of helping patients build meaningful and a fulfilling life.
